In the past week, I have received some products from the Fenty Beauty Makeup Line. I’m not going to lie, I was super hyped when I saw the announcement!
So before writing this blog, I’ve experienced many trial and errors (more errors than not.) So keep reading to find out what I have learned.
So a little back story on my skin. As you know, over the past two years I have struggled with my skin. It has become extra oily and unpredictable. I have received some success when I switched to Curology. I decided that I would discontinue my journey with them, which will be explained in another blog.
Rihanna is one of my favorite celebrities that I have been following since 2005, so it was no surprise that I was racing to throw her my money.
The line was scheduled to drop September 8th, 2017. The only thing standing in my way of being at the launch was Hurricane Irma that was scheduled to hit Central Florida the following day. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma had already ransacked my hometown (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) along with other surrounding islands. The entire state was shutting down due to the state of emergency. I couldn’t let anything get in my way of my Fenty Beauty!
So I went online and I looked at what I wanted to order. I couldn’t decide because Rihanna had 40 shades in her collection. I have never seen such an extensive make up line. There were so many shades that could have been my perfect match, but my bank account was limited.
I decided that the 330 could possible be my shade. Unfortunately, I bagged the foundation without looking at any reviews. (bad idea) I also got a lighter shade because I’ve heard through the grapevine that it would oxidize darker. I also got the foundation brush and the gloss bomb universal lip gloss.
Once I ordered the products, I waited impatiently. I then realized that I probably wouldn’t get my package soon due to the hurricane, so I waited until the store opened. Once I was able to see the fully stocked shelf, I was like a kid in a candy store. I tried on almost every shade. I got the 380, 390, 400, 410, and the 420. I guess the makeup artists in the Sephora store sensed my frustration, and we all agreed that the 390 was best for my skin tone.
It’s always even more frustrating picking out foundation when my skin is not it’s best. I also got the confetti shimmer skinstick which reminds me of unicorns. It is so magical, I couldn’t leave it in the store.
When I got home, there were two packages waiting at my doorstep. Did I double order? I opened one that had products that I didn’t order. I received 3 killawatt highlighters, the Instant Retouch Primer, the match stix in Caramel and truffle, as well as the blotting powder. My friend saw that I was struggling with makeup and thought that I would enjoy playing in Rihanna’s makeup!
I damn near cried, because I am oversensitive. I’m the type of girl that tears up when someone shares their fruit cup with me.
Anywho, back to my thoughts on the line. Because I didn’t have power yet, I played around with the make up. I washed my face and prepped it with the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer. Instantly, I recognized the difference in the texture of my skin.
- My pores were undetectable.
- My scars were blurred.
- My skin was softer.
- Less oily.
If my skin wasn’t in such the state it is now, I would totally wear it by itself.
Over the primer, I put on the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longer Foundation in the shade 390. Now let me say, this is the first foundation where I noticed a huge difference. Even with just one layer.
- It was breathable.
- It wasn’t cakey.
- It dried darker to the perfect shade.
- One pump would cover my entire face twice.
- It’s buildable and easy to blend.
Caution: I did use the Fenty Beauty Full-Bodied Foundation Brush, however, it seemed to soak up more product that I prefered. I’m not a huge fan, instead, I used my Sephora Buffing Brush #70, which gave me an airbrushed look.
I think this foundation is perfect for acne prone skin and oily skin. You can wear it all day with minimal touch up! I love it so much. I also noticed after a week of wearing this foundation, my skin has improved dramatically.
It had more of a glow and much smoother. I believe because it is easy to remove and it does not clog my pores as many other brands have done in the past.
I then highlighted and contoured with Fenty Beauty Match Stix Matte SkinStick in Caramel and TRUFFLE. This product definitely took some getting used to. It was harder to blend in the beginning, but once I used the product a few times, it helped the stick to glide easily on my face instead of dragging.
- It is definitely light weight so for a glam look, I would need multiple layers.
- It is perfect for everyday use.
- It isn’t ideal for buildable coverage. It’s more of a medium coverage.
- Dries to a powder finish. I could ALMOST go without setting my face with a powder.
The Fenty Beauty Invisible Blotting Powder is ideal for on the go blotting. I also used it as a setting powder, not ideal but can be used as a last resort. What I do like about this is although it is white, it has little to no flashback.
I used all 3 of the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighters. Here are my thoughts on each one.
- Trophy Wife is potent!!!! Please beware! It is the most gorgeous and pigmented of the bunch. Too much of the flick of the wrist and you will look like you’ve dipped your head in gold.
- Girl Next Door looks ashy and way too light for people of color. You would need an extremely fair skin tone for this color.
- Chic Phreak is gorgeous! I use it for a subtle hint of color and glitter. It is extremely pretty in the daytime for everyday make up. Just lightly dust on the apple of your cheeks to make a subtle fresh faced look.
- Mean Money… Just Ashy! Supposed to be a champagne color. I am still waiting to see someone use it where it doesn’t look ashy. Even on fair skin tones.
- Hustla Baby could be bae if I were a tad bit lighter. It is a champagne color with peachy undertones. Simply gorgeous!
All in all Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Line is a GAME CHANGER!! Extremely user friendly for all levels of makeup users. I am shooketh!
I’m a little disappointed that there was no setting spray or eyeshadows, but I do see that there will be a holiday line with shadows. Hopefully, it would include a setting spray as well. 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
