Day 1: The freak out

Dear Diary,

I woke up this morning with a face full zits. I don’t even know how that happened. I’m lying. I am always lying to myself. I remember when I first started Curology, my face was picture-perfect. Not a blemish in sight! So what happened, you asked? Let’s talk about where I went wrong.

First, I started practicing with makeup for the 365 day makeup challenge. Between half assed cleaned brushes and not using a makeup remover, my skin was doomed before I knew it. Sometimes, I would take tiny cat naps that was meant to be 20 minutes, but wound up being over 6 hours! Pesky little blemishes invaded the perimeters of my face.

But it didn’t stop there. I unintentionally reduced my water intake due to my busy schedule. I then noticed one or two protruding boils on either sides of my cheeks. I said to myself, “Oh, it will go away, it’s just one and I wrote it off due to my upcoming menses.” “It will go away,” I said again. Then the the texture of my skin began to feel more rough. Clusters of greasy, pimples began to form. Before for I knew it, I was once again not able to hold a conversation without trying to hide my face. The embarrassment is back once again.

I decided to write this journal so that I can keep track of how I am treating my skin. Pretty much I am stepping out of my comfort zone and holding myself accountable for my own neglect. I was not consistent with my routine.

Once I had realized the damage it cost my skin, it was time for drastic measures! I went on some errands and I stocked up on skin care products and I carefully planned out a routine for day and night care.

I took pictures of my face with makeup on so that I could send to my curology doctor. I was sent a new prescription so I will see how it works out. My new prescription is as follows!

  • 0.009% Tretinoin. It stimulates collagen growth which helps to fight off wrinkles making skin smooth like a baby’s bottom. It also works to treat acne.
  • 1% Clyndamycin. With anti-inflammatory properties it is a powerful agent to get rid of acne causing bacteria.
  • 9% Azelaic Acid- This dual action chemical unclogs pores, as well as eliminates hyper-pigmentation.

This formula is just what the doctor recommended… 7 months ago. I fell off the wagon. At least I am not as bad as square one.

Jeez! I plan to use Trader Joe’s face wash because it uses plant-based ingredients instead of animal fat. Immediately, I could tell the difference!

I use rose water as a toner. It moisturizes my skin and brightens my face. A mist or two leaves my skin feeling AH-MAZING! I then use Benefit’s It’s Potent eye cream. Following my eye cream, I use Clinique’s dramatically different moisturizer. Finally, I top it off with either Cetaphil daily spf moisturizer which leaves my skin glowing or my Curology formula. This depends on whether it is day or night. For the day, obviously, I will use SPF or Curology at night.

I also vowed to drink 50 ounces of water per day minimum. I have been pretty bad at keeping up with my water intake. Instead of me trying to over achieve and drink a full gallon, I will start with baby steps. Look at my cute little bottle I got from Walmart. I added the little fluff to be extra. 2017-02-16 12.31.39 1.jpg

So to recap on the game plan!

  1. Always wash makeup off.
  2. Hydrate.
  3. Moisturize.
  4. Use Curology.
  5. Be consistent.

I will stick with this routine for 60 days. Hopefully, this will help.

Below I have also inserted my code so that you would be able to try out Curology for FREE!

Until next time.
